The tables have only turned in recent years.
I have been a Lightning fan since the beginning, and the first fifteen years (or so) of the Lightning's existence was owned by the Red Wings. That dreaded Winged Wheel meant another beatdown for the Lightning - the Bolts only hope was to keep from being embarassed. This continued for many years, though different coaches and rosters. It wasn't until the current iteration of the Lightning gelled that the tables finally turned. The same can be said for the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers - two other teams that absolutely destroyed the Lightning every game during the early years.
